ARTICLE IV
OFFICERS

Section 1.Qualification of Officers:

Paragraph 1.All officers shall be voting members.

Paragraph 2.No person may be elected to office unless that person has been a building representative or alternate, or has been a chairperson of a standing committee for at least one year.

Paragraph 3.Officers shall have been unified members for the three previous years.

Section 2.Terms of Office:

Paragraph 1.The President, VicePresident, Secretary and Treasurer, shall assume their duties on August l following their election and they shall remain in office through July 31 of the year in which a successor is elected.

Paragraph 2.The President and VicePresident may not be elected to more than three (3) consecutive twoyear terms in the office to which elected.

Paragraph 3.The Secretary and Treasurer shall be elected for two (2) year terms in the office for which elected. The Secretary and Treasurer shall be elected on alternate years from the President and VicePresident. There shall be no limit on the number of terms of office the Secretary and Treasurer serve.

Section 3.Nomination of Officers

Paragraph 1.A candidate for the office of  President, Vice-President or Secretary may be nominated by a Letter of Intent.  The Letter of Intent shall be submitted to the Nominating Committee.  A candidate for Treasurer shall be nominated by the  Nominating Committee,  after submission of a letter of intent. 

Paragraph 2.Any qualified candidate for President, Vice-President or Secretary, shall be placed on the ballot.  Candidates for Treasurer shall be placed on the ballot after screening and nomination by the Nominating  Committee. 

Paragraph 3.The Nominating Committee may present a slate of candidates.

Paragraph 4.In the event that no Treasurer is nominated, the Executive Committee may utilize the services of selected consultants for the preparation of required reports and filings.  The consultants  shall have no voting privileges in the association.Section 4.Election of Officers
                          
Paragraph 1.All voting members shall have the opportunity to vote.

Paragraph 2.The election representative in each building shall be charged with the responsibility of conducting the election

Paragraph 3.A majority of the votes cast shall be necessary to elect an officer. If necessary, a runoff election shall be held within five school days between those two candidates who received the most votes on the first ballot.

Paragraph 4.The results of the elections shall be posted in the buildings within 10 days after the election.

Paragraph 5.All ballots, marked, unmarked and voided and all other records pertaining to the election of officers of this Association shall be preserved for one year from the date the election was held and such ballots and other records shall be made available to P.E.A. members upon request for inspection and examination.

ARTICLE XII
ELECTIONS COMMITTEE

Section 1.There shall be an Elections Committee consisting of  three appointed members, one of whom shall serve as Chairperson. In addition, one representative from each building shall be on this committee.

Section 2.Duties

Paragraph 1.The committee shall be in charge of and conduct all elections held by the Association and those elections for which the Association must provide delegates.

Paragraph 2.The committee shall be responsible for enforcing the "one member, one vote" concept, including provisions for absentee ballots.

Paragraph 3.The committee shall maintain a schedule of elections for all elected atlarge committees to ensure continuity in those committees.

Paragraph 4.Where representation of particular level of the membership is to be elected, the committee shall arrange that such representatives shall be elected by members of their respective groups only.

Paragraph 5.The committee shall be responsible for placing in each building resumes of each candidate 10 days prior to any local election. These resumes shall also be available at the PEA office in order for those PEA members not assigned to a building to have access to them.

Paragraph 6.All ballots, marked, unmarked and voided and all other records pertaining to the election of officers of this Association and OEA, NEA and NEOEA delegates and alternates, shall be preserved for one year from the date the election was held and such ballots and other records shall be made available to PEA members upon request for inspection and examination.

Paragraph 7.The committee shall notify all candidates on the ballot and all write in candidates receiving 5 or more votes of the status of any election.
